Post subject: Trying To Get Started~

I had to vent this out somewhere to other songwriters because it is totally bugging me right now. I am wanting to produce a cd of 14 songs I have written in the past three to four years. They are not perfect. They have issues in them lyrically. So I am in the process right now of revising and rewriting them. It is taking so much time. Is it important to do this? I think so. I want to make them stronger. In the process though I am not able to think about the next album of songs. I am hindered by my insecurity, by my level of songwriting.

It is around 4:30am. My daughter woke me up so I sit here awake with this nagging feeling to work on those songs. I know however, that I will need to get up with the kids early, go to Easter rehearsal, look at a bed for my daughter, clean and organize the house, cook dinner and go to the Farmer's Market for groceries. There is a juxtapostion between both worlds. My mommy/wife side and my songwriter side. They are always competing for top dog.

These songs mean something to me. Especially in my walk with the Lord. They have registered with others who have heard them. They are not perfect, but they are part of who I am. I really want to share them and document them in some organized form with good recordings. So I wait. I work on them little by little. I hope I find time to get this project done.

Thanks for reading this and caring. Have a wonderful Easter weekend. Rejoicing in Jesus' salvation!

Lara~

Hi Lara, I have a GREAT suggestion for ya. Check out CCMNI's Christian Songwriter's Competition. Submit 3 of your songs in a quarter for their critique and they will send you a link to download a FREE copy of their Christian Songwriter Development Program. The critiques are done by great songwriters in the Christiam Music business-so your critiques are very valuable. The cost is $35 per song to submit. The link to all the contest information on their website is: http://christiansongwriting.com. I submitted 3 of my songs the first quarter of this year. I received the free development program and in the midst of it right now, and loving it! I am learning soooooooooooooo much! This course would definately help with your rewrites.

In addition, you may submit your songs here on CSN for these wonderful people to critique. The folks on this website are very kind, but honest. That is the way I like it.

God bless, and keep writing songs for His kingdom! :D

Hi Lara

Well, you know you can post them here and also on WTR.

It is very good that you are doing your rewrites now before you record.... there is NOTHING worse then recording and then saying, OOOPPPPS! (Who would do that, you ask? oh well, let me not say)

It will all get done. You will see it happen.

I have come to the realization that this is what I am doing - now and forever - I write songs for OUR GOD, To/for/and of HIM. There are always songs to write down, songs to tweak, songs to record, songs to promote, songs to share.
Its what WE do. So now, work on ONE song. and then work on the next. Count it all joy! I know you do!
You are not alone in your frustration, I think many of us have those moments.

call me anytime!
ang O:)
