Wow! I posted something and it vanished into cyberspace! Total bummer!!!
OK, I'll try posting it again: Too bad I didn't make a copy of the post that disappeared.
The military commissions act that I spoke of above was revoked by the supreme court June 7, 2008. I was waiting for someone to point that out. Since no one did I thought I'd do it myself. Bush signed that act into law which was a breach of the Constitution. That act gives the president power to incarcerate anyone foreign or citizen in this country without cause and without habeas corpus (representation). In times past under Wilson, Roosevelt, Adams, American citizens were unlawfully imprisoned through such an act.
Obama, voted against this act for which I applaud him. McCain supported the act. It's unconstitutional to invoke this act unless we are in a time of unlawful civil uprising or under invasion by a foreign power according to my understanding. The act that Bush put into law allowed for torture as a means of interrogation.
I wonder how many of us were aware the act had been invoked and how many of us were aware it had been rescinded? Of course, I probably wasn't challenged on the issue because no one read my blog.
It does seem important to me that we keep up on these types of matters. It is frightening to think a president could invoke such authority without the consent of the constitutions provisions. That's why I'm hoping and praying we return to strict adherence to the constitution. It's really the only thing that prevents law makers from taking away our free speech. That is outside of the fear of a mob uprising. However, if we have a military police force in this country and that act is invoked. YIKES!!!
Regarding any legal issues or opinions I've raised, PLEASE feel free to correct me. I am a fledgling at voicing my opinions in this arena.
